Saturday March 31, 2018

The 2018 Ghana Outreach with eTeams began yesterday as team members from across Canada travelled to Ghana’s second largest city of 1.5 million: Kumasi, to be joined by local Christians and work on behalf of the Believers Bible Assembly hosted by mission workers Daniel & Priscilla Webster. It has been amazing to witness how God has guided each team member to Ghana over the past few days. Ten of us, each from various walks of life and age groups, along with nine Ghanaian believers, comprise this years’ team. Each of us may be different, but we all share the same desire to reach out to the people in Ghana with God’s love and offer of salvation.

We had a bit of an adventure today involving roof racks and police check points as the team drove from the airport in Accra to Daniel and Pricilla’s home in Kumasi. But we took the opportunity during one delay to share the gospel with many people at a service centre stop, either by word or with tracts. It has also been a great opportunity for the team members to get to know each other better and we look forward to working and interacting together. We sang together on our long drive, thankfully in a wonderful air-conditioned van. Once we arrived in Kumasi we were enthusiastically greeted by several Ghanaian at Daniel & Priscilla’s home, which is perfectly set up and extremely comfortable. They have gone above and beyond to anticipate all of our needs. The A/C is much appreciated as well! Tears of joy were expressed by one team member at the commencement of our time here! After a delicious supper the team spent more time becoming more acquainted with one another and our various roles here, and then off to bed.

The current team in Ghana March 30 to April 16 2018

The team travelling from Accra to Kumasi – it was quite the adventure involving roof racks and police check points!

See below information about Ghana:

Kumasi is Ghana’s second city to capital Accra on the Gold Coast. It is a twin city to Atlanta, GA; Charlotte, NC; Columbas, OH; and Kitchener, ON. WikiTravel explains, “Ghana is currently a very safe, stable country with relatively low crime levels compared to other West African countries.”

The trade language of Ghana, West Africa is English although the local language would be Twi. It is a multicultural nation with a population of approximately 29 million. Five percent of the population practices traditional faiths, 17.6% are Muslim and 71.2% adhere to mainly Roman Catholic, Protestant and charismatic Christianity. A former British colony, Ghana gained its independence in 1957.

Ghana currently has one of the highest school enrollment rates in all of Africa with over 95% of its children in school. The team will spend most mornings and afternoons sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ in public elementary & high school classrooms and auditoriums.

An hour plus spent listening could be viewed as a good way to get out of classes but it could also change minds, hearts, lives and destinies. Ghana has a literacy rate exceeding 80% amongst those 15-24 years.

Thanks for following along! Please be praying for the team and team leader Tim Hood! You can find more information about Ghana and this years team as well as more pictures and videos from the trip at the eTeam’s Facebook page
